Pretty Birdy - Nute Gunray/Rune Haako by Kweh-chan Pretty Birdy - Nute Gunray/Rune Haako by Kweh-chan
That slash is there for a reason...

Another group from the magazine cover. Nute is showing off his (horrendously poor rendition of a) red-spotted pylat bird. If you've read Darth Plagueis, you will understand that this bird is, effectively, the reason he invaded Naboo, got arrested, joined the CIS, helped start the Clone Wars, ran for his life, ended up on Mustafar, and was later killed. I don't know what I did to this particular piece, but my best friend told me there was a "ton of chemistry" in it...I guess I'll never be able to completely hide the fact that Gunraako is my OTP. Although, I will admit, I did make this set so that people could decide for themselves if there was something there or not ;)

I find it so amusing, so epic and fitting that the end of an ancient goverment and supposedly super holy order was helped along by vanity centered around a bird.

It's beautiful. XD

Not used often enough in fan art if you ask me. Well drawn and coloured.

You know, you just had to make the title 'pretty birdy' instead of anything less innocent and gentle. And now there's this emotional knife right in my gut again. I hope you're proud.

Seriously, though, this is so cute it hurts. I love how Rune is stroking and softly admiring the bird, with Nute hovering nearby protectively (his hand looks like it's half-posed to catch the bird if it should fall off its perch from excess of cuddles). Also, Nute has a proudest daddy smile on his face. :XD:
To me, the final magazine placement of the characters worked really well as an 'informal gathering', with each Neimoidian displaying something typical yet endearing. I'd love to read/see something like this happen in a early prequels SW novel/comic, where Nute'n'Rune make a transition from a purely professional and grudging interaction to beginning a haphazard half-trusting friendship.

On a technical note, I love the flow of Nute's robes and how you drew the bird and its cage mechanism. The bird looks totally sweet-tempered and adorable, you should try making it have a cameo appearance again in your drawings sometime. It really looks great!

Dare I even ask what happened to Nute's bird? D:

Haha! I'm proud now! 8D

Thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked it! An informal gathering is EXACTLY what I wanted to achieve with the magazine cover. Oh how I'd love to see that between Nute and Rune too (and perhaps a bit more, as you know me XD).

I've been practicing material and flowing a lot lately, so thanks for noticing. The cage on the other hand was an absolute pain...

Oh how I'd love a pylat bird; he will definitely be coming back in other drawings.

I think the bird survived Darth Plagueis; however, in the Episode I novelisation, it says how some pylats were killed when the Jedi were gassed in the meeting room...I imagine even if this one survived that, he'd have died when the Saak'ak exploded, if he were onboard.

I am glad I caught your exact intention for the magazine cover, informal gatherings are something we don't often see; mostly if there's two, three Nems standing together, they're either awaiting a call from a Sith lord or plotting. XD

The cage actually looks great, so you did well on it even if it cost you nerves. :D
I'd love to have one too, they're like beautiful prehistoric parrots. Oh, oh! A random idea for you - to one day make a teeny pylat bird plush to keep your plush Nute company.

The bird surviving Darth Plagueis (I imagined briefly the person, not the novel) sounded like Plaggy tried to eat it at some point. I think I shall imagine this birdy being too precious to haul around on board the Saak'ak, because imagining it being gassed/exploding is too sad... Let's just say Lott Dod promised to babysit it? XD

That's true...and that's what I try to do, in general: show Neimoidians in a lighter, more informal, funnier light.

LOL, thanks. I think I could have done a better job on it, but, live and learn! I can always practice more.

OH! That is a fantastic idea!!! I happen to have brought one of my Nute plushes with me, so I could, indeed, make him a little bird.

Hahaha! Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if he did! I hope Nute WAS, indeed, smart enough to leave it with the Senator. I now want to draw Lott Dod playing with the bird XD.
